The Lemniscate

The infinity symbol, also known as the lemniscate, represents balance, unity, and wholeness. Its continuous looping shape reflects the flow between opposing forces—such as light and dark or masculine and feminine—meeting in harmony rather than conflict. Rather than being static, it symbolises movement, connection, and the idea of two becoming one. While introduced into mathematics in the 17th century, its spiritual meaning is much older, linked to ideas of eternity and completeness. In tarot, it appears above figures like the Magician and Strength, representing infinite potential and the ongoing relationship between opposing energies.

Working with the Infinity Symbol (Energy & Visualisation)
Beyond its meaning, the infinity symbol can also be used — not just understood.
In energy work, the lemniscate becomes a tool for movement, release, and balance.
One way I’ve worked with it is through visualisation:
Imagine the infinity symbol laid out in front of you.
On one side, place the issue — a feeling, a situation, something unresolved.
On the other side, place the person, energy, or external influence connected to it.
At first, they sit within the same continuous loop — feeding into each other, cycling, repeating.
Then, gently, you begin to shift the shape.
The centre point — where the two loops meet — becomes a place of awareness.
A choice point.
From here, you can begin to separate the flow.
Instead of one continuous loop, you allow the shape to soften and open —
until each side becomes its own space.
No longer bound.
No longer feeding the same cycle.
Just two independent energies, existing without pulling on each other.

The infinity symbol naturally represents connection — but also choice within connection.
By visualising its movement, you’re not forcing release.
You’re allowing the pattern to change shape.
It becomes less about “cutting ties” and more about ending the loop.
